Istanbul Airport Tops European Rankings in Flight Volume

Istanbul Airport has emerged as the busiest airport in Europe, according to recent aviation data. The airport recorded an average of 1,444 flights per day between December 8th and 14th, placing it ahead of other major European hubs.

The data, published in a European aviation report, highlights Istanbul Airport’s significant role in continental air traffic. London Heathrow followed in second place with an average of 1,308 daily flights. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport recorded 1,285 flights, while Amsterdam Schiphol Airport saw 1,260 flights daily during the same period.

Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen International Airport also ranked within the top ten busiest European airports, securing tenth position with an average of 751 flights per day.

This achievement comes after a year of recognition for Istanbul Airport. It was recently named the “Most Family Friendly Airport in the World” for 2025 by SkyTrax, a UK-based organization specializing in airline and airport assessments. Furthermore, the airport was ranked as the second most connected airport globally in terms of air links, according to a recent report by OAG, a British aviation data analysis firm.

The consistent high volume of flights and international recognition solidify Istanbul Airport’s position as a leading aviation hub in Europe and worldwide. This ranking reflects the airport’s operational efficiency and its strategic importance in connecting passengers across the globe.
