Civil Protection Intervenes as Storms Hit Several Algerian Regions

Algiers, December 19, 2025 – Algeria’s Civil Protection units have been actively engaged in responding to the impact of severe weather conditions across several wilayas today. Operations focused on water drainage and rescuing stranded vehicles, with no casualties reported.

The sudden increase in rainfall and overflowing wadis prompted interventions in multiple locations. In Ghardaia, Civil Protection teams in El Guerrara, Berriane, and Zelfana were deployed to assist motorists whose vehicles were trapped by rising floodwaters. Drainage operations were also carried out in the Agmadine neighborhood of El Atteuf to alleviate water accumulation on roads and in residential areas.

In El M’Ghair, Civil Protection resources were mobilized to pump out floodwater from various neighborhoods within the El M’Ghair municipality, including Hai Es Saada, Hai El Wiam, the industrial zone, Hai El Alia, and Hai 19 Mars. These efforts aimed to restore traffic flow and protect residents from potential hazards.

Similar interventions were undertaken in El Oued, where accumulated water was drained from Hai Es Sahn El Aouel, the city center roundabout, and Hai 17 Octobre. These operations helped to normalize the situation following the disruption caused by the heavy rainfall.

In Touggourt, specifically in the municipality of Tayebate, Civil Protection teams addressed water accumulation at the entrance of the Kheneg El Aliat post office to prevent traffic disruptions and damage to public facilities.

Algeria’s Civil Protection services remain on high alert, urging citizens to exercise caution, especially when traveling. The public is advised to avoid crossing roads and wadis with high water levels until weather conditions improve.
