Djelfa – A serious road accident occurred on National Route 1 in Djelfa province on Friday, resulting in multiple injuries. A passenger bus overturned near Ras El Rih, on the road connecting Djelfa and Laghouat, leaving eight people injured.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of Civil Protection, the accident involved a Toyota Coaster bus operating on the Messaad-Djelfa route. The bus reportedly veered off course and overturned. This incident raises renewed concerns about passenger safety in public transportation across national routes.
The injured individuals, ranging in age from 15 to 61, sustained injuries of varying severity, highlighting that road accidents impact all age groups. Civil Protection services responded swiftly to the scene, providing first aid to the injured before transporting them to Mahad Abdelkader Hospital in Djelfa for necessary medical treatment.
Biskra – In a separate incident, two people died in a road accident in Biskra province. Civil Protection units in Tolga intervened following a collision between a fuel tanker truck and a passenger vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. The accident occurred at Ain Sekhouna, in the municipality of El Ghrous, Foughala district. The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of both occupants of the passenger vehicle.
These incidents occur amidst ongoing concerns about road safety, despite recent measures and regulations outlined in the proposed new traffic law. The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saayoud, recently presented the draft law to the legislative body, aiming to curb the increasing rate of traffic accidents. These accidents underscore the need for strict enforcement of traffic laws, enhanced field monitoring, accountability for public transport professionals, and intensified road safety awareness campaigns. Road safety remains a strategic priority for national security.
