Algeria Aims to Become Africa’s Vaccine Hub

Algiers, December 19, 2025 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has directed Algeria’s national pharmaceutical industry to prioritize the production of high-cost vaccines targeting diseases prevalent across the African continent.

Speaking at the opening of the 33rd Algerian Production Fair, the President expressed his ambition to transform Algeria into a leading source of vaccines for Africa. He emphasized the critical need to address the continent’s unique health challenges.

President Tebboune highlighted that Africa faces specific diseases often neglected by major pharmaceutical companies due to limited financial returns. He asserted Algeria’s responsibility to support Africa, regardless of profitability, emphasizing that this commitment is central to Algeria’s obligations to the continent.

“Africa’s health is our priority,” stated President Tebboune. “We must ensure access to essential vaccines, even if the financial incentives are not immediately apparent. Our commitment to our African brothers and sisters is unwavering.”

The President also lauded the advancements made by the national pharmaceutical industry, recognizing Algeria’s leading role in Africa and its growing presence in other regions, including Latin America. This initiative builds upon Algeria’s existing pharmaceutical infrastructure and aims to leverage it for the benefit of the entire African continent.

The move is expected to significantly improve access to vital vaccines, strengthen healthcare systems across Africa, and solidify Algeria’s position as a key player in continental development. Further details regarding specific vaccine production plans and collaborations with other African nations are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
