Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly planning to present US President Donald Trump with plans for potential new strikes against Iran, according to Israeli and American sources cited by NBC News.
Sources indicate that Israeli officials are increasingly concerned about Iran’s expanding ballistic missile program, which they claim was disrupted, but not eliminated, by Israeli military actions earlier this year. They are preparing to brief President Trump on options for renewed military intervention.
The officials are also reportedly worried about Iran potentially restarting uranium enrichment sites that were targeted during the 12-day conflict in June. Netanyahu, who faces scrutiny from the International Criminal Court regarding alleged war crimes in Gaza, is expected to present his arguments and plans for attacking Iran during a meeting with Trump later this month in Florida.
Sources suggest that Netanyahu’s argument will center on the idea that Iran’s actions pose a threat not only to Israel but to the entire region, including US interests. He is expected to offer Trump options for joining or assisting in any new military operations, according to the US news outlet.
However, two former Israeli officials suggest that Trump might be less enthusiastic about new military action in Iran, particularly if tensions persist between US and Israeli officials regarding Netanyahu’s approach to the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which went into effect on October 10th but has allegedly been violated by Israel on multiple occasions.
Regarding the plans Netanyahu is expected to present to Trump, a source familiar with the matter explained that prior to the strikes in June, the Israelis presented Trump with four options for military action. These options reportedly included a unilateral Israeli operation against Iran and a plan involving US support.
