Massive Drug Bust: 246 kg of Moroccan Cannabis Seized

In two separate operations, Algerian National Security forces have seized approximately 246 kilograms of processed cannabis originating from Morocco. The operations, conducted over the past week, led to the dismantling of two criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade across the western regions of the country.

The Regional Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking in Tlemcen and the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) of the Naama State Security Directorate spearheaded the operations. In Tlemcen, authorities seized 170 kilograms of processed cannabis, while in Naama, they confiscated 76 kilograms. Ten individuals associated with the criminal networks were apprehended.

Significant financial resources linked to the drug trafficking operations were also recovered. Authorities seized 790 million centimes (approximately $58,000 USD) in criminal proceeds, along with ten vehicles used for transporting and distributing the drugs.

The suspects have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Specialized Penal Pole in Oran and the Public Prosecutor at the Naama Court, where they will face the necessary legal proceedings. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Algerian security forces to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. The authorities are committed to disrupting these networks and preventing the flow of illegal substances into the country.

The successful operations underscore the vigilance and effectiveness of the National Security forces in safeguarding the nation from the dangers of drug trafficking. Further investigations are underway to identify any additional individuals involved in these criminal enterprises. The seized drugs will be destroyed according to established legal procedures.
