Arabic Language Promotion Key to Algerian Diaspora Identity

The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, Soufiane Chaib, alongside the President of the Higher Council of the Arabic Language, Dr. Saleh Belaid, presided over a ceremony commemorating the International Day of the Arabic Language. The event saw participation from Algerian diplomatic and consular centers abroad.

This year’s celebration was particularly special, marking the first-ever involvement of children and young people from the Algerian diaspora. A rich and diverse program featuring educational activities and cultural presentations, prepared and organized over a month, was showcased.

The festivities included lectures, workshops, intellectual gatherings, competitions, and artistic performances, through which participants expressed their deep connection to their national identity and their pride in and attachment to their cultural and civilizational heritage.

During his address, Secretary of State Chaib emphasized the high importance that the highest authorities place on promoting the Arabic language. He highlighted the state’s dedicated efforts to teach Arabic to Algerian children residing abroad, considering it a cornerstone of national identity and a crucial element in preserving the cultural and civilizational belonging of the diaspora.

He also announced the launch of several educational initiatives, currently being developed in coordination with various ministerial sectors, to meet the cultural and educational needs of the Algerian community abroad.

Furthermore, he outlined ongoing efforts to open Algerian cultural centers abroad, envisioning them as spaces that nurture the Arabic language and cultural exchange. He also mentioned the organization of educational and cultural visits to Algeria for students from the Algerian diaspora.

The President of the Higher Council of the Arabic Language praised the unique and exceptional nature of the event and the active participation of Algerians from around the world. He urged them to continue their efforts to preserve their cultural and linguistic heritage, strengthening their ties with the homeland. He also commended the cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Higher Council of the Arabic Language, aimed at ensuring the promotion of the Arabic language among Algerian citizens residing abroad.
