M’Chiri Airport Reopens After Upgrade, Expansion Planned

M’Chiri Airport in Naâma Province Officially Reopens After Renovation

M’Chiri Airport, also known as Sheikh Bouamama Airport, officially resumed operations on Sunday following the completion of reinforcement and upgrade work on its aircraft parking area. This development has been widely welcomed by travelers and residents of the region.

The airport marked its reopening with the arrival of the first Air Algerie flight from Algiers to M’Chiri. The event was attended by the Governor of Naâma Province, Lounes Bouzegza, and several local officials. Passengers expressed their satisfaction with the resumption of air traffic after the period of closure.

Haddi Imad Eddine, Director of the M’Chiri Airport Services Management Establishment, stated that the completed works have allowed the airport to reopen under suitable technical conditions. He also announced a proposed new project to expand the air terminal. This expansion includes enlarging the aircraft parking area to accommodate seven large aircraft simultaneously, as well as constructing a VIP lounge and a comprehensive lobby with various essential facilities.

The provincial committee recently approved the selection of a 22-hectare land plot adjacent to the airport for the implementation of this strategic project, which aims to improve air transport services and enhance the region’s attractiveness.

The reinforcement and upgrade work on the aircraft parking area began at the end of October, with an estimated completion time of three months. However, the local company in charge of the work managed to complete the project in about two months, ahead of schedule, under the supervision of the Directorate of Public Works of Naâma Province, as the project owner.

This development is expected to improve the province’s air connectivity and support economic and tourism activity in the region. Future development of the airport is expected to further contribute to the region’s growth.
