Algiers – The Ministry of Communication and the High Commission for Amazighity (HCA) have formalized a framework agreement aimed at bolstering the presence of the Amazigh language in the national media landscape. The signing took place during a scientific media conference titled “Amazighity and National Unity: Institutional, Academic, and Scientific Contributions.”
The conference, inaugurated by Minister of Communication Zohir Bouamama and Secretary-General of the HCA, Si El Hachemi Assad, brought together a distinguished group of academics, experts, and media professionals. Discussions centered on various key themes, including the institutional dimension and public policies for the advancement of the Amazigh language, the role of Amazigh onomastics as a scientific tool for understanding and consolidating national identity, and the contribution of ancient history in highlighting Algeria’s Amazigh roots.
The framework agreement between the Ministry of Communication and the HCA is designed to enhance the visibility of the Amazigh language as a national language within the media sphere. It also seeks to develop institutional communication in both Arabic and Amazigh, and to support media production that promotes national cultural heritage.
Key objectives include increased Amazigh-language content across various media platforms and strengthened collaboration between media outlets and Amazigh cultural institutions. The agreement underscores the commitment of both entities to preserving and promoting Algeria’s linguistic diversity.
The conference witnessed broad participation from specialized professors and researchers, along with directors of media institutions and officials from official bodies. This reflects the importance of integrating institutional work, academic research, and media in serving national unity and valuing Algeria’s cultural diversity.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and the HCA signifies a significant step towards greater inclusivity and recognition of the Amazigh language and culture within Algerian society.
