Algeria’s Pioneering Role in Human Rights Evident at African Court Session

Algeria reaffirms its leadership in the promotion and protection of human rights both regionally and internationally, according to Prime Minister Ayman Ben Abdel Rahman. In a recent statement during the 71st opening session of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights at the International Conference Centre, the Prime Minister highlighted Algeria’s commitment to peace and security within Africa through non-interference in state affairs and peaceful dispute resolutions.

Prime Minister Ben Abdel Rahman emphasized Algeria’s dedication to advancing human rights, noting that hosting such a significant African event reflects the country’s prioritization of the issue. The constitutional amendments have introduced a new momentum in strengthening individual and collective rights, public freedoms, separation of powers, and the reinforcement of oversight authorities.

Further, the Prime Minister revealed that the constitution encapsulates all reforms through the introduction of various legal texts, such as the Organic Law of Information, which regulates the noble profession of journalism, among other texts.

Algeria’s belief in multilateral action is demonstrated by its efforts to bolster cooperation with human rights organizations, ensuring regular reporting and collaboration with these bodies.

The Prime Minister also affirmed Algeria’s robust presence in international and regional forums, adhering to established charters and a human rights-respecting approach. Algeria’s hosting of the African event is a testament to its sustained interest and commitment to human rights principles.

Addressing the situation in Palestine, Prime Minister Ben Abdel Rahman expressed Algeria’s concern over the tragic developments and reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s rights to life, health, and for children to enjoy their childhood and innocence, as stipulated by international treaties.

This demonstration of Algeria’s leadership in human rights is not only a matter of policy but also a reflection of its strong international and regional presence, making it a model for other nations to follow.
