In a pivotal move towards strengthening bilateral relations in the energy sector, Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab welcomed a Congolese delegation to discuss future cooperation in the oil and gas domain.

This visit follows the Congolese Oil Minister’s trip to Algeria in May 2022, which set the stage for the current discussions aimed at deepening the Algerian-Congolese energy partnership. The talks are a continuation of the dialogue initiated on May 24, 2022, when the two countries signed an official record of discussions in Algeria’s capital, highlighting various fields of potential collaboration.

Among the topics of discussion are the exchange of expertise in establishing legal and regulatory frameworks for the hydrocarbon sector, creating regulatory bodies, enhancing oil and gas activities, and specifically sharing experiences in developing the natural gas sector, including Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

The Congolese delegates’ agenda is designed to allow them to engage in meetings and site visits to Algerian energy companies such as Sonatrach and Naftal. These visits aim to understand their expertise in research, exploration, and marketing of petroleum products. Additionally, the delegation is scheduled to visit the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP) to discuss cooperation in training programs and human capital development.

The ongoing discussions and visits highlight the commitment of both Algeria and Congo to fostering a collaborative environment that leverages shared experiences, promotes investment opportunities, and ultimately strengthens the oil and gas sector’s growth in both nations.
