Algeria, Qatar Poised to Finalize Key Economic Deals

Algiers, December 22, 2025 – Algeria and Qatar are on the verge of finalizing several significant economic agreements, signaling a strengthening of bilateral ties. Discussions are underway to expedite strategic projects of mutual benefit.

Industry Minister Yahia Bechiche received Qatari Ambassador to Algeria, Abdul Aziz Ali Al-Naama, alongside the CEO of SNS Group, Adel Khamman, and senior ministry officials. The meeting focused on bolstering economic and industrial cooperation between the two nations.

A primary focus of the discussions was the acceleration of the second phase expansion of the Bellara steel complex in Jijel, a joint venture between Algerian and Qatari companies. This expansion is seen as crucial for boosting Algeria’s steel production capacity.

Talks also included the progress of a joint project with Baladna Algeria for the production of infant formula. This project is considered vital for enhancing national food security and reducing import dependence.

Minister Bechiche emphasized the importance of elevating the economic and industrial partnership to reflect the strong relationship between Algeria and Qatar, following the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He stressed the need to swiftly translate agreed-upon projects into tangible realities.

The Qatari Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting investment in Algeria, assuring the prompt launch of the steel complex’s second phase after a comprehensive feasibility study is completed, ensuring high economic returns and project sustainability.

Furthermore, discussions explored expanding cooperation and investment in promising industrial sectors, such as textiles, with the potential to generate wealth, create jobs, and enhance industrial integration.
