Algiers – The Minister of the Mujahideen and Veterans, Abdelmalek Tacherift, welcomed a group of children from the Algerian diaspora to the National Museum of the Mujahid in Algiers today, Monday, December 22, 2025.
The visit is part of the “Journey of Memory” program, an initiative designed specifically for children of the Algerian community residing abroad. The program aims to connect young Algerians living outside the country with their heritage and the sacrifices made during Algeria’s struggle for independence.
The Minister emphasized the importance of preserving the collective memory and transmitting it to future generations, both within Algeria and among the diaspora. He highlighted the critical role these children play in maintaining a strong link to their homeland and promoting Algerian culture and values internationally.
During their visit, the children were given a guided tour of the museum, which houses a vast collection of artifacts, documents, and photographs that chronicle Algeria’s war of liberation. They had the opportunity to learn about the key figures, events, and sacrifices that shaped the nation’s history.
“It is essential that these young people understand the sacrifices made by their ancestors to secure Algeria’s freedom,” the Minister stated. “By engaging with this history, they will develop a deeper sense of national identity and a greater appreciation for the values of freedom, justice, and solidarity.”
The Ministry of the Mujahideen and Veterans views the “Journey of Memory” program as a vital tool for strengthening ties between Algeria and its diaspora. The program is expected to continue in the coming years, with more children from around the world participating in similar educational and cultural experiences.
The National Museum of the Mujahid serves as a powerful reminder of Algeria’s rich and complex history, and the visit by these young diaspora members underscores its enduring relevance for all Algerians, regardless of where they live.
