Algeria Inaugurates Children’s Parliament

Algiers, Algeria – The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Brahim Boughali, presided over the inauguration ceremony of the Algerian Children’s Parliament today at the Assembly headquarters. The event was attended by the President of the Council of the Nation, Azzouz Nasri, the President of the Constitutional Court, Laila Aslaoui, several ministers, and representatives from civil society, as well as child parliamentarians from across Algeria and abroad.

In his opening address, Speaker Boughali expressed his pride in this significant moment, emphasizing that the establishment of the Children’s Parliament embodies the vision of the Algerian state, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to involve young people in public life and instill values of citizenship and positive participation from an early age. He added that this educational initiative is the result of collaboration between teachers, educators, parents, and state institutions, reflecting the belief that true investment lies in human capital, with children being the foundation for building the future.

Addressing the young parliamentarians, Boughali affirmed that their election is a testament to the trust placed in them, a responsibility rather than merely an honor. He congratulated representatives of the Algerian community abroad and welcomed the participation of three children with special needs, recognizing their outstanding academic achievements. He clarified that the Children’s Parliament is not just a symbolic framework but a sophisticated national space reflecting Algeria’s new vision for building a conscious and responsible generation, noting that the state relies on childhood as the cornerstone of every renaissance and sustainable democratic project.

The Speaker stressed that the children’s presence in parliament represents a pivotal educational milestone and an opportunity to shape their leadership skills, where young parliamentarians learn the art of dialogue, respect for differing opinions, and responsible decision-making. He added that every intervention or proposal presented within this framework is a practical exercise in assuming responsibility and practicing teamwork. He emphasized that citizenship is not just a slogan but a practiced behavior, explaining that the Children’s Parliament helps them understand the issues of their society and turn ideas into initiatives and initiatives into achievements, while encouraging them to embody their love for Algeria daily and appreciate its rich history.

Boughali pointed out that the Children’s Parliament is a natural extension of the Algerian school’s role in instilling values of diligence and encouraging academic excellence, promoting a spirit of initiative, distinction, and discipline, urging children to keep pace with scientific and digital transformations and develop critical and creative thinking skills, interacting consciously and responsibly with contemporary developments. He concluded his speech by affirming the Assembly’s support for the Children’s Parliament and its commitment to providing the necessary resources for its success.
