Algerian Army Deals Blow to Smuggling Networks

Algiers – The People’s National Army (ANP) has dealt a significant blow to organized crime networks involved in cross-border smuggling, demonstrating its continued vigilance and operational readiness.

During operations conducted between December 16th and 22nd, 2025, in the Second Military Region, ANP security forces dismantled a dangerous criminal network operating across several western provinces. The operation resulted in the apprehension of nine (9) smugglers following the exploitation of precise intelligence.

The operation also led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of psychotropic substances, specifically over 517,000 ecstasy tablets destined for illegal distribution. Authorities also confiscated 13,951,500 Algerian Dinars in proceeds from criminal activities.

In addition to the drugs and cash, five passenger vehicles and two semi-trailer trucks used in smuggling operations were seized. A number of mobile phones used for coordination within the network were also confiscated.

This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the People’s National Army, across all its units, to aggressively combat organized crime networks, safeguard national borders, and fight against the scourge of drugs and psychotropic substances that threaten the security and stability of Algerian society. The ANP remains steadfast in its mission to protect the nation and its citizens from these threats.
