Algiers – Heavy rainfall across several western provinces of Algeria prompted widespread interventions by Civil Protection units on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Operations commenced in the morning and continued until 13:30, with no casualties reported in initial assessments.
In Ain Temouchent province, Civil Protection personnel in El Amria municipality successfully extracted a vehicle stranded on National Road 02 due to accumulated rainwater. The operation was conducted without injuries. Teams also worked to drain significant volumes of water from residential areas and roadways. Affected locations included two ground-floor homes in Bouamama Ali neighborhood, the main road in Maarouf Rouba neighborhood, the 95-unit and 190-unit housing areas, Ben Chiban neighborhood, Emir Abdelkader Street, and the industrial zone, specifically the leather factory and cardboard factory areas in Mansour Ahmed neighborhood.
In Hassi El Ghella municipality, efforts continued to remove rainwater from two homes in the 20 Aout neighborhood and one home in Douar El Kitna, as well as the main road on Mujahid Daoudi Kassem Street, preventing potential damage.
Meanwhile, in Oran province, a similar intervention took place in Boutlelis municipality, where three vehicles were extracted from high water levels on National Road 02. No injuries or material losses were reported.
In Sidi Bel Abbes province, Civil Protection units in Ain El Berd municipality drained rainwater from the courtyard of an apartment complex in the 88-unit housing area, prioritizing the safety of residents and property.
Algerian Civil Protection authorities emphasize that they remain on high alert and are actively monitoring the situation. Citizens are urged to exercise caution, avoid crossing flooded roads, and remain vigilant until weather conditions improve.
