Algiers – A new traffic law is being introduced with the primary objective of achieving sustainable road safety and security, according to Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Saayoud. The Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to balancing preventative measures with deterrents to create a safer environment for all road users.
Speaking on Wednesday, Minister Saayoud emphasized that the law represents a comprehensive approach to traffic management, moving beyond simple enforcement to address the root causes of accidents and promote responsible driving habits. The proposed legislation includes provisions for enhanced driver education, stricter penalties for traffic violations, and improved infrastructure to minimize risks.
“This law is not simply about punishing offenders; it’s about creating a culture of safety on our roads,” stated Minister Saayoud. “We aim to achieve a sustainable vision where traffic accidents are significantly reduced, and our citizens can travel with confidence and security.”
The new law is expected to address several key areas, including speeding, reckless driving, and driving under the influence. It will also focus on improving pedestrian safety and promoting the use of public transportation. The government believes that by implementing these measures, it can significantly reduce the number of traffic-related fatalities and injuries.
The Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation is confident that the new traffic law will contribute significantly to achieving a long-term vision of road safety and security. The ministry is committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the law and to create a safer and more efficient transportation system for all.
