Investigation Launched into Libyan Chief of Staff Plane Crash

A committee formed by the Minister of Interior of the Government of National Unity has begun its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the plane crash that resulted in the death of the Chief of the General Staff, First Lieutenant General Muhammad al-Haddad, and his accompanying delegation. The investigation is being conducted in coordination and cooperation with Turkish authorities.

According to a statement released by the Criminal Investigation Department, the committee is headed by Major General Mahmoud al-Ojaili, the head of the department. A specialized team is currently working to complete the necessary procedures for repatriating the bodies of the deceased to Libya. This includes collecting DNA samples and comparing them with samples from their relatives, adhering to established international standards.

The committee’s responsibilities encompass searching for and examining the wreckage of the aircraft to further the investigation. The ultimate goal is to uncover all the details and circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

The plane crash resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Libyan military officials, including First Lieutenant General Muhammad al-Haddad, Chief of the General Staff; Staff Major General Al-Fitouri Gribel, Commander of the Ground Forces affiliated with the Government of National Unity; Brigadier General Mahmoud Jumaa Al-Qutaiwi, Director of Military Manufacturing; Muhammad Al-Asawi, Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army; and photographer Muhammad Omar Ahmed Mahjoub. This incident has sent shockwaves through the Libyan military and political landscape. The investigation is expected to be thorough and transparent.
