Algeria Mourns Loss of Libyan Army Chief in Plane Crash

Algiers, December 25, 2025 – Algeria has expressed its deepest condolences following the tragic death of the Libyan Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, and his accompanying delegation in a plane crash. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening as they were returning from an official visit to Ankara, Turkey.

Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army, visited the Libyan Embassy in Algiers on Thursday to offer condolences on behalf of the Algerian government and people. He signed the book of condolences, conveying the nation’s sympathy during this difficult time.

A statement released by the Algerian Ministry of National Defense confirmed that Lieutenant General Chengriha was acting on the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense. During his visit to the embassy, Lieutenant General Chengriha expressed his sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and to the entire Libyan people.

The loss of Lieutenant General Al-Haddad and his colleagues represents a significant blow to Libya. The Algerian government has reiterated its solidarity with Libya during this period of mourning.
