Algiers, December 25, 2025 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has lauded the career of the eminent scholar Mohamed Salah Seddik, bestowing upon him the prestigious “Ahid” medal of national merit. The honor recognizes Seddik’s significant contributions as a writer, intellectual, and veteran of the Algerian liberation struggle.
In a message delivered by the Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, President Tebboune praised Seddik’s lifelong dedication to cultural and intellectual enrichment. The President noted that Seddik, from his youth, drew inspiration from the teachings of Sheikh Abdelhamid Ben Badis, Sheikh Bachir El Ibrahimi, and other luminaries of the Association of Algerian Muslim Scholars.
President Tebboune emphasized that Seddik, along with his generation, imbibed the values of national struggle during a critical period in Algeria’s history. “The scholar Sheikh Mohamed Salah Seddik, together with his generation during that difficult period of Algerian history, was imbued with the values of national struggle during the national movement, which in the thirties of the last century was charting the path towards an imminent rendezvous with the dawn of the liberation revolution on the first of November,” the President stated.
The President further highlighted Seddik’s role as a leading intellectual who championed national liberation during the oppressive colonial era. Seddik courageously defended Algerian identity and heritage against attempts to suppress the nation’s culture, language, and religious beliefs. He served as a journalist for the Association of Algerian Muslim Scholars, documenting pivotal events in Algeria’s modern history. His writings were characterized by clarity, wisdom, originality, and unwavering patriotism.
President Tebboune concluded by acknowledging Seddik’s meticulous historical research and his unwavering commitment to national values. He described Seddik as an exemplary writer and author, deeply devoted to his nation and its heritage. The “Ahid” medal stands as a testament to Seddik’s remarkable contributions and enduring legacy.
