Throughout 2025, Algeria has solidified its commitment to reinforcing the social character of the state and improving the living standards of its citizens through a series of significant decisions. These measures underscore the government’s dedication to social justice and citizen well-being.
A key development was the announcement of an increase to the National Minimum Guaranteed Wage. This increase, alongside rises in retirement pensions and unemployment benefits, aims to provide crucial financial support to various segments of the population.
Reflecting the pledges of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the social landscape has been strengthened by progressive policies designed to enshrine the principle of social justice. The 2026 Finance Law includes provisions intended to bolster the purchasing power of citizens and ensure a dignified life for all.
Driven by the spirit of the November 1, 1954 Declaration, President Tebboune’s decision to raise the National Minimum Guaranteed Wage represents a tangible step towards providing additional support to the workforce. Furthermore, unemployment benefits have also been increased, accompanied by comprehensive healthcare coverage for recipients, incentivizing job seekers.
Retirees have also benefited from presidential attention, with a directive to implement pension increases. These increases are differentiated, providing a higher percentage for those receiving lower pensions, further addressing income inequality.
In a move to bolster social protections for women, maternity leave has been extended, allowing for a more extended period of leave. This progressive measure is intended to empower working women to balance their family and professional responsibilities within a fair and humane social framework.
Significant changes have also been implemented in the education sector, including lowering the retirement age for teachers and integrating contract teachers into permanent positions. This initiative acknowledges the vital role educators play in shaping future generations.
In addition to these measures, the tourist allowance was raised to 750 euros for adults and 300 euros.
