Ghanaian Referee to Officiate Algeria-Burkina Faso Clash

DZWatch Exclusive: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea to officiate the highly anticipated match between Algeria and Burkina Faso. The crucial Group E clash in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for today, Sunday, with kickoff set for 18:30 local time.

Laryea, 38, an international referee since 2014, will be assisted by Zakhele Thusi Siwela of South Africa as the first assistant referee, and Souru Phatsoane from Lesotho as the second assistant. The fourth official will be South Africa’s Thabo Abongile.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties will be overseen by Kenyan official Dickens Mimisa Ng’agwa, with his compatriot Stephen Eleazar Onyango Yiembe assisting him in the VAR room.

Both Algeria and Burkina Faso currently lead Group E with 3 points each after securing victories in their opening matches. Algeria convincingly defeated Sudan 3-0, while Burkina Faso edged out Equatorial Guinea with a 2-1 win.

The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the round of sixteen, which is scheduled to take place on January 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th. The Algeria-Burkina Faso match is seen as pivotal in determining the group winner and securing a favorable position in the knockout stages.
