Algiers, Algeria – A wave of severe weather, characterized by a significant drop in temperatures, thunderstorms, and heavy snowfall, has swept across several provinces in Algeria today, Sunday. The national meteorological services have issued warnings, indicating that the adverse weather conditions are expected to persist until dawn on Monday.
According to the weather advisory, the provinces of Tlemcen, Naama, Bechar, and Sidi Bel Abbes are experiencing locally significant thunderstorms, which are forecast to continue until 9 PM today, Sunday. Another bulletin indicates that Saida, El Bayadh, and Tiaret are also under a thunderstorm warning, with activity expected from midday until midnight.
Similarly, the provinces of Medea, Laghouat, and Djelfa are bracing for locally significant thunderstorms, commencing at 9 PM today, Sunday, and lasting until dawn on Monday.
Regarding snowfall, the western highlands of the country are witnessing continued heavy snowfall until 3 PM this afternoon, particularly affecting the provinces of Tlemcen and Naama. The highlands of Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, El Bayadh, and Tiaret are also experiencing heavy snowfall, which began at midday and is expected to last until midnight.
Furthermore, the meteorological services have cautioned about a persistent cold wave affecting the provinces of Tebessa, Khenchela, Batna, Setif, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Djelfa, Laghouat, El Bayadh, and Naama, with frigid conditions expected to last until dawn on Monday. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the evolving weather situation.
