Gas Poisoning Sickens Six in Medea Province

Medea, Algeria – December 28, 2025 – Six individuals were hospitalized today in Medea province after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident occurred in the municipality of Berrouaghia, according to local authorities.

Civil Defense units responded to a call at 6:38 AM local time reporting a gas leak at a residence in the AADL Cheraga neighborhood. Upon arrival, first responders discovered six people exhibiting symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Preliminary investigations suggest the source of the carbon monoxide was a faulty heating appliance. The victims, whose ages range from 8 to 54 years old, were experiencing nausea and respiratory difficulties.

“The rapid response of our Civil Defense teams was crucial in mitigating the impact of this incident,” stated a local official. “We urge all residents to ensure their heating systems are properly maintained and that their homes are adequately ventilated to prevent future tragedies.”

All six victims received on-site medical treatment before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and care. Their condition is currently being monitored. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the gas leak and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
