Marrakech, Morocco – Algerian international referee Mustapha Ghorbal has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate the highly anticipated match between Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghorbal will lead the officiating team, which includes first assistant referee Gerson Emiliano dos Santos from Angola and second assistant referee Mahmoud Ahmed Kamel Aboulregal from Egypt. Mohamed Maarouf Eid Mansour, also from Egypt, will serve as the fourth official.
The crucial Group F encounter between the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon is scheduled to take place this Sunday evening at the Stade de Marrakech, kicking off at 9:00 PM local time.
This match is pivotal for both teams, as they seek to secure a vital victory in their quest to top the group and enhance their chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON finals. A win would provide a significant advantage heading into the third round of matches.
Ghorbal’s appointment reflects the growing recognition of Algerian referees on the continental stage. Just recently, Ghorbal served as the fourth official in the match between Senegal and DR Congo. Fellow Algerian referee, Lahlou Benbraham, also officiated an international match, earning praise for his performance in the 1-1 draw.
DZWatch will provide comprehensive coverage of the match, including pre-match analysis and post-match reports.
