Algiers – The Ministry of Justice is leading a comprehensive national approach to combat human trafficking and protect victims. In line with the state’s commitment to strengthen the national system for combating human trafficking crimes, the Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Center for Legal and Judicial Research, is organizing specialized study meetings on the Legal Framework for Combating Human Trafficking and Standards for Victim Protection.
These meetings, which began today and will continue until December 30th, are being held at the Judges Residence in Algiers. They form part of a comprehensive strategic vision aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of public policies in the fight against human trafficking, recognized as one of the most dangerous forms of organized crime that affects human dignity and societal security.
This initiative reflects the public authorities’ commitment to aligning national legislation with relevant international obligations and establishing a legal approach based on respect for human rights and the protection of vulnerable groups. The meetings involve nearly 100 participants, representing various stakeholders, including judges, police officers, members of the National Committee for the Prevention and Control of Trafficking in Persons, experts, central administration officials, and researchers from the Center for Legal and Judicial Research, reflecting the integrated and participatory nature of this scientific event.
The study meetings aim to enhance the capabilities of judges and judicial police in the field of combating human trafficking crimes by deepening the legal understanding of relevant national and international texts and developing mechanisms for investigation and early detection of these crimes. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to improve ways to identify victims and ensure their protection and care in accordance with established legal and humanitarian standards.
This initiative also strives to consolidate a comprehensive approach based on crime prevention, deterring those involved, protecting victims, guaranteeing their rights, and strengthening mechanisms for cooperation and coordination at the national and international levels. This collaborative effort aims to build a robust and effective national strategy against human trafficking.
