Kim Jong-un Oversees Missile Test, Urges Nuclear Buildup

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un observed the test launch of a strategic cruise missile into the sea, state media reported Monday. He characterized the exercise as a crucial drill for bolstering the nation’s war deterrent capabilities amid persistent security threats.

During the missile maneuver conducted on Sunday, Kim emphasized the need for an “unlimited and sustained” development of North Korea’s nuclear arsenal, according to the report. The leader expressed satisfaction as the cruise missiles followed their designated trajectory over the sea west of the Korean Peninsula and accurately struck their target.

Kim stated that regularly verifying the reliability and responsiveness of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s nuclear deterrent components is a responsible measure in the face of diverse security challenges. The Korean People’s Army reportedly launched two cruise missiles from the west coast, each traversing approximately 170 minutes before hitting a target building.

Analysis suggests the target was located on an island near Nampo, a site frequently used for missile tests in recent years. Earlier this year, Kim supervised a successful test launch of a new hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile, pledging to accelerate Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile capabilities.

North Korea is actively developing a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile amid a race to develop next-generation long-range missiles that are more difficult to track and intercept. This latest test underscores the country’s commitment to advancing its strategic weapons programs. The international community is watching these developments closely. Further analysis will be provided as it becomes available.
