National team coach Vladimir Petkovic has raised expectations for the Algerian national team, declaring that simply qualifying for the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations is no longer the sole ambition. Petkovic emphasized that the primary objective moving forward is to compete for and ultimately win the continental title.

Speaking at a press conference following the team’s successful advancement, Petkovic affirmed that the team is progressing steadily. He stressed that their diligent preparation and unwavering focus will continue as they strive to go further in the competition. He added that reaching the knockout stages provides the players with increased confidence and a heightened sense of responsibility to defend Algeria’s chances.

The coach also commented on the presence of family members in the stands, noting Zinedine Zidane’s support for his son as a natural occurrence. He highlighted that numerous players had family members present to support them, which positively impacts the morale and psychological well-being of the national team.

Petkovic concluded his remarks by underscoring the importance of fan and family support in the team’s journey. He reiterated that the focus remains firmly on achieving the ultimate goal: bringing joy to Algerian fans by winning the continental championship. The national coach also addressed the health of some players: “I hope that the injuries sustained by the duo, Hajjaj and Sharqi, are not serious, and we will await the results of the examinations before considering the next steps.”

Petkovic concluded his statements by talking about the upcoming match against Equatorial Guinea: “We will start preparing for the next match now, and I will make some changes. I will evaluate the performance of each player and give more players a chance.”
