Algiers, December 29, 2025 – The international preliminary rounds for the prestigious Algeria Award for Quran Memorization and Recitation commenced today, under the auspices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments.
Minister Youssef Belmahdi inaugurated the 21st edition of the competition at the ministry headquarters, highlighting the event’s significance and the high level of international participation.
In a statement to the press, Minister Belmahdi emphasized that this year’s edition is held under the esteemed patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He noted the participation of 48 countries, including Algeria, with the expectation of reaching nearly 50 in the coming hours, demonstrating the growing international recognition of the competition.
The Minister explained that the preliminary rounds are being conducted remotely through Algerian embassies, consulates general, and diplomatic missions abroad. An international panel of judges, comprising four Algerian experts, along with one judge each from Syria and Oman, will oversee the evaluation process.
“This competition provides a valuable opportunity to discover emerging talents and exceptional reciters from both Algeria and abroad,” the Minister stated. He added that it reflects Algeria’s advanced standing in serving the Holy Quran through its mosques, Quranic schools, religious institutions, and recitation centers.
The Algerian government continues to support this competition through the introduction of new categories and increased prize money, further solidifying its position and underscoring the official commitment to honoring those who have memorized the Holy Book.
These international preliminary rounds will culminate in the selection of twenty contestants from various countries, who will be invited to Algeria to participate in the final stage of the International Algeria Award for Quran Memorization and Recitation, organized in commemoration of the blessed Isra and Mi’raj.
