Sanaa, Yemen – Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad al-Alimi has issued a demand for all Emirati forces to withdraw from Yemeni territory within 24 hours. The declaration was made in a televised address earlier today, accompanied by the announcement of a 90-day state of emergency across the entire republic, effective immediately.
President al-Alimi stated that the Presidential Leadership Council has decided to nullify the joint defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates. Furthermore, a 72-hour air and land blockade has been imposed on all ports and entry points.
According to President al-Alimi, these measures are designed to safeguard civilians and uphold the legal standing of the state. The decision follows confirmation that the UAE allegedly shipped two vessels loaded with weapons from Fujairah to the port of Mukalla.
The President also renewed his call for the leadership of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to exercise restraint and withdraw from Hadramout and al-Mahra governorates. He urged the ‘Nation Shield’ forces to mobilize and take control of all military camps in these regions.
“We have directed the formation of a communication committee comprised of state leadership and political components to contain the escalation,” al-Alimi stated, emphasizing the state’s commitment to protecting its citizens and preventing the use of weapons to impose a fait accompli.
Earlier today, reports indicated heightened tensions around the port city of Mukalla. These reports preceded the President’s address and the subsequent declaration.
The situation remains fluid, and DZWatch will continue to provide updates as they become available.
