Moscow Threatens Retaliation After Alleged Attack on Putin’s Residence

Moscow has vowed to retaliate following what it claims was a Ukrainian attempt to attack President Vladimir Putin’s residence using drones. Russian state news agency TASS reported the threat, citing a statement from the Foreign Ministry. The alleged incident comes amidst ongoing tensions and diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

According to TASS, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that a response would be forthcoming. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has vehemently denied any involvement in the purported attack.

President Zelenskyy, in a statement released on social media, asserted that Russia’s accusations are aimed at undermining peace talks between Ukraine and U.S. President Donald Trump. He characterized the Russian statements as “extremely dangerous,” suggesting their intent is to disrupt progress made in collaborative efforts with the Trump administration.

Zelenskyy further pointed out that Russian forces previously targeted the Ukrainian Prime Minister’s office in Kyiv. He emphasized that Ukraine is not engaging in actions that would weaken diplomacy, while accusing Russia of consistently taking such steps.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reportedly stated that Ukraine attempted to target President Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region using 91 drones. Lavrov claimed the attack resulted in no casualties, injuries, or damage, with all drones reportedly intercepted.

Lavrov indicated that Russia would not withdraw from negotiations regarding Ukraine despite the alleged attack. However, he stated that Russia would reconsider its negotiating approach, taking into account what he described as the Kyiv regime’s “decisive transition to a policy of state terrorism.”

He reiterated that Russia would retaliate for the attack, adding that the objectives and timing of the Russian response had been determined following the alleged attempt to target President Putin’s residence. The situation remains tense as both sides trade accusations and the prospect of further escalation looms.
