Moscow has released what it describes as ‘new evidence’ to support its claim that Ukraine launched a coordinated drone attack targeting one of President Vladimir Putin’s residences. The allegations, which Kyiv has vehemently denied, have further strained already tense relations between the two nations.
According to Brigadier General Alexander Romanenkov, commander of anti-aircraft missile units within the Russian Aerospace Forces, the alleged Ukrainian attack on the presidential residence in Novgorod was ‘targeted, meticulously planned, and multi-staged.’ Romanenkov presented a map purportedly showing the flight paths of the drones, along with video footage from air defense control systems allegedly capturing the interception of the unmanned aerial vehicles.
Speaking at the Ministry of Defense headquarters, Romanenkov stated that Ukraine allegedly attempted a ‘terrorist attack’ on the official residence on the night of December 28-29, using long-range drones launched from the Sumy and Chernihiv regions of Ukraine. He claimed the drones flew at extremely low altitudes.
The Russian military official further asserted that the attack involved 91 drones following multiple routes through the Bryansk, Smolensk, Tver, and Novgorod regions, all directed toward the presidential residence. Romanenkov emphasized that Russian forces and air defense systems successfully destroyed all the Ukrainian drones, preventing any casualties or damage within Russian territory. He added that the presidential residence itself sustained no damage.
‘The pattern of the attack, the number of aerial attack vehicles involved, and the direct movements from the south, southwest, and west toward the presidential residence in the Novgorod region clearly confirm that the terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime was targeted, meticulously planned, and multi-staged,’ Romanenkov stated.
The alleged incident comes amid escalating tensions in the region. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
