Algiers – The Algerian national team, affectionately known as the Desert Foxes, concluded their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 group stage campaign in dominant fashion, securing a flawless record. Their final group match saw them triumph over Equatorial Guinea with a convincing 3-1 victory on Wednesday evening.
From the kickoff, Algeria displayed a clear intent to control the game. Their high tempo and relentless pressure quickly translated into an opening goal in the 19th minute. Defender Zinedine Belaid capitalized on a well-executed free-kick from El Hadj Moussa, heading the ball powerfully into the net.
The Desert Foxes didn’t wait long to extend their lead. Fares Chaibi added a second goal in the 25th minute, showcasing individual brilliance with a precise shot after a skillful run. Ibrahim Maze then further solidified Algeria’s dominance, scoring a third goal in the 32nd minute, heading home another pinpoint cross from El Hadj Moussa. The first half performance was near perfect.
While the second half saw a slight dip in Algeria’s intensity, allowing Equatorial Guinea to pull one back in the 50th minute through Emilio Nsue, the Desert Foxes maintained control. Despite the goal, the team, led by captain Zerrouki, demonstrated tactical maturity, managing the game effectively and controlling the tempo to secure the win.
Several players stood out during the match, including Ibrahim Maze, who delivered a stellar performance. Fares Chaibi was instrumental in linking the play, while El Hadj Moussa proved to be a constant threat with two assists and troublesome movement for the opposition’s defense.
With this victory, Algeria finishes the group stage with a perfect record, following their 3-0 win against Sudan and a 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso. This strong showing confirms their readiness to compete fiercely in the knockout stages. The Desert Foxes now face a challenging round of 16 clash against Congo.
