Damascus, DZWatch – Leaked recordings allegedly featuring Suheil al-Hassan, a former high-ranking officer in the regime of ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, have ignited a firestorm of controversy online. The recordings reportedly reveal al-Hassan attacking Hamas, praising the ‘annihilation’ of Gaza, and condemning the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.
The leaked material, purportedly obtained by Al Jazeera, also suggests that leading figures within the former regime are attempting to reorganize and initiate armed activity in the Syrian coastal region. This alleged effort aims to reshape the military landscape against the current Syrian government.
According to the report, businessman Rami Makhlouf, a cousin of Bashar al-Assad, is a key supporter of al-Hassan’s activities. The recordings and documents were reportedly leaked by an individual who gained access to the phones of several Assad regime officers by posing as an Israeli Mossad agent. This deception allegedly allowed the individual to access sensitive conversations and recordings detailing military plans and movements.
In one of the most controversial excerpts, al-Hassan allegedly thanks the supposed Mossad officer for their time and expresses his hopes for the end of what he calls ‘this folly, this evil, this blackness called the Flood, may God curse them.’ He is also quoted as saying, ‘We want more, eliminate them and keep them away, and accept nothing less than this. These are the sons of filth and impurity and cannot be trusted.’
The انتشار of these recordings has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, particularly given the Assad regime’s past claims of supporting the Palestinian cause. Many users have expressed outrage and disbelief, questioning the regime’s true intentions.
One Twitter user, ‘Al-Rada’ al-Maghribi,’ described the video as ‘shocking to those who said that the Assad regime supports the Palestinians.’ Another user, ‘Yassin Syria,’ dedicated the leaked video to five unnamed parties. Sary al-Hamad al-Aqeedi commented that he is not surprised by the ‘collaboration and stupidity’ of Assad’s officers.
DZWatch is continuing to investigate these claims.
