Algerian Football Federation Intensifies Penalties for Referee Protests

dzwatch

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has decided to increase the penalties for protesting against referees’ decisions. Previously, sanctions were limited to suspending the protesting player for one match.

The FAF revealed that it has abolished the previous sanction imposed in 2014, replacing it with a financial penalty for any player, administrator, or technical staff member who protests against the referee’s decisions, amounting to 100,000 Algerian dinars (approximately 670 USD).

According to the FAF’s statement, any player or member of the technical and administrative staff who protests against the decisions of the main referee or one of the assistants will be fined this amount, with the financial penalty reduced by half for those active in the second division league.

Personal penalties will be imposed on any player who surrounds the referee or one of the assistants to protest a decision. If the involved player is not identified, the team captain will be fined instead.

This measure aims to curb the disorder and indiscipline increasingly prevalent in Algerian football stadiums in recent years, sometimes escalating to verbal and physical violence against referees.
