Ministry Pledges Review of Transportation Pricing

Algiers, January 2, 2026 – The Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation has committed to re-evaluating transportation pricing structures following a consultative meeting with transport unions. The announcement comes after growing concerns regarding the cost of public transportation and its impact on citizens.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry convened a meeting Friday with representatives from five key transport unions. The discussions focused on addressing professional concerns raised by these social partners. The participating organizations included the National Organization of Algerian Transporters, the National Union of Transporters, the General Union of Algerian Traders and Craftsmen, the General Union of Algerian Workers, and the National Union of Taxi Drivers under the banner of the General Union of Algerian Workers.

According to a statement released by the Ministry, a range of points were clarified during the meeting, particularly concerning the proposed traffic law. The Ministry emphasized that the draft law remains under review as part of the established legislative process and is subject to further refinement based on submitted observations and suggestions. This clarification aims to address recent discussions and speculation surrounding the proposed legislation.

Regarding transportation pricing, the Ministry indicated that the issue will be studied carefully, taking into account the social importance of public services and the affordability for citizens. The review seeks to balance the needs of transport operators with the economic realities faced by the Algerian public.
