In October 2019, Larbaoui was recalled from his post as Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States to serve as an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra. By September 2021, he became the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations in New York.
During his diplomatic career, Larbaoui successfully garnered Arab countries’ support for Algeria’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2024-2025.
