Algeria and Mauritania Strengthen Police Cooperation

Algiers, January 4, 2026 – The Director-General of National Security, Ali Bedaoui, today received a high-level police delegation from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, led by the Director-General of Mauritanian Security, General Mohamed Lehritani, at the headquarters of the Directorate-General of National Security.

According to a statement released by the Directorate-General, the meeting began with bilateral discussions between Director-General Bedaoui and his Mauritanian counterpart. The working session then expanded to include the police delegations from both countries.

In his address, Bedaoui praised the level of police cooperation between Algeria and Mauritania. He emphasized the commitment to further strengthen and develop cooperation mechanisms, particularly in the areas of specialized police training, and the exchange of expertise and professional experiences in the field of scientific and technical policing, as well as combating transnational organized crime.

“We are dedicated to building a stronger, more secure future for both our nations through collaborative efforts and shared knowledge,” stated Director-General Bedaoui.

The Mauritanian police delegation will also undertake field visits to several operational and specialized technical departments of the National Security forces. These visits aim to provide insights into the Algerian police’s experience in combating organized crime and emerging forms of crime.

The visit underscores the ongoing commitment of both Algeria and Mauritania to enhancing security cooperation and addressing shared challenges in the region. The strengthening of ties between the two countries’ police forces is seen as a vital step in promoting stability and security across the border.

This collaborative effort highlights the importance of regional partnerships in effectively tackling the complex security threats facing both nations.
