Algiers – National team coach Vladimir Petkovic stated in a press conference today that the Algerian national team’s technical staff and players are fully focused on the next stage, emphasizing the need to put the past behind them.
Petkovic explained that the positive results achieved in the first part of the tournament are a morale booster, but they are now in the past. He said that the current preparation is based on a careful reading of the upcoming opponent, which he described as ‘strong,’ while working to exploit every detail to achieve victory.
The national coach added that the team seeks to enter with the highest degrees of mental and physical readiness, respecting the opponent and adhering to a balanced game plan. He affirmed that the goal is clear: to deliver a convincing performance that translates into a positive result that satisfies the fans and confirms the team’s progress at this stage of the competition.
The national coach stressed that the technical staff and players are only focused on achieving victory and continuing the journey steadily. Petkovic explained that the Congolese team is a strong opponent with a high team spirit, especially after their performance in the group stage, noting at the same time that every team, no matter how strong, has weaknesses that can be exploited if the team prepares well and focuses on the field.
The national coach added that the ‘Greens’ are approaching the tournament with a game-by-game mentality, saying that the ambition is to win every match without thinking about what is beyond, considering that each meeting represents a new beginning and an opportunity to gain more confidence and correct mistakes. ‘We’re only thinking about the next challenge,’ he stated.
Speaking about the squad, Petkovic affirmed that the team includes 28 players with a high competitive spirit, all of whom are ready to contribute at the right time, highlighting the importance of discipline and focus in such difficult continental events. He also made special mention of some young players, confirming that they have proven their worth and will be part of the future of Algerian football, calling on them to continue working and stay focused in order to develop further.
Petkovic concluded his statements by emphasizing that the African Cup of Nations is a tournament that does not recognize easy matches.
