Algiers to Bolster Healthcare with New Hospitals and Maternity Clinic

Algiers, Algeria – The capital city of Algiers is poised to significantly enhance its healthcare infrastructure with the addition of three new hospitals and a dedicated maternity clinic. The announcement, made by Minister of Health Mohamed Essadik Ait Messoudene, signals a commitment to improving healthcare access and quality for residents.

During a recent site visit alongside the Governor of Algiers, Mohamed Abdenour Rabehi, the Minister revealed that the new facilities are scheduled to become operational by the end of the second trimester of 2026. Each of the three hospitals, located in Ain Benian, Baraki, and Reghaia, will boast a capacity of 120 beds. The maternity clinic in Reghaia will provide 60 beds specifically for maternal care.

Ait Messoudene emphasized the advanced state of the projects, noting that construction is approximately 95% complete. He assured that the facilities are being equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, including advanced medical imaging equipment, ensuring high-quality healthcare services upon opening. The Minister highlighted the importance of these new structures in strengthening healthcare coverage in both the eastern and western parts of Algiers, ultimately improving the overall quality of care for citizens.

Governor Rabehi confirmed that the process of equipping the three hospitals is underway, positioning them for operation within the specified timeframe. He also disclosed ongoing consultations to identify suitable locations for the construction of two new university hospitals in the east and west of the capital. These university hospitals aim to alleviate pressure on the existing five hospitals in the region, which currently serve patients from across the country. This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to addressing healthcare needs and providing comprehensive medical services to the population.
