Algiers – A sharp drop in temperatures is expected to sweep across several interior provinces of Algeria today and tomorrow, according to weather forecasts.
The national weather service has issued a warning for a significant cold wave, bringing with it very low temperatures. The affected provinces include Tebessa, Oum El Bouaghi, M’Sila, Tissemsilt, Tiaret, Saida, and Sidi Bel Abbes.
Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution, especially those using roadways. The public is advised to be aware of the risks of frost and reduced visibility. Necessary precautions should be taken to protect against the extreme cold.
In recent hours, several Algerian provinces have already experienced severe weather changes, characterized by heavy snowfall and a sharp decline in temperatures. This has led to ice formation and significant difficulties in traffic flow on a number of national and local roads, particularly in mountainous areas and highlands.
The National Gendarmerie reports that traffic is moving slowly, especially in the province of Tissemsilt. Snow has disrupted traffic on National Road 14, which connects to Tiaret, and National Road 23, which leads to Laghouat.
Reduced visibility and partial obstruction of vision were also recorded on National Road 47 between the municipality of Brida and the border of El Bayadh province due to a heavy snowstorm. Motorists are advised to check road conditions before travelling.
