Tiaret Province, January 7, 2026 – Civil Protection units in Tiaret Province successfully freed 58 vehicles trapped by heavy snowfall that impacted several areas of the region. The operation, which concluded earlier today, involved the rescue of numerous motorists stranded on various roadways.
Lieutenant Abdel Rahman Mansour, the communication officer for Civil Protection, stated that the teams worked tirelessly since Tuesday evening to reach those affected. The rescued vehicles included trucks, passenger cars, utility vehicles, and even an ambulance.
Most interventions were concentrated in the treacherous curves of Kertoufa and Chmit on National Road 23, the Ouled Bougdou area on the eastern bypass of the provincial capital, the Mechraf area on National Road 14, and Ain Qasima on National Road 90. Additionally, assistance was provided on Provincial Road 6 in the Ain Kermes district.
The rescue efforts involved substantial resources. Maintenance teams from the Directorate of Public Works, equipped with snowplows and salt trucks, played a crucial role. A significant presence of the National Gendarmerie, National Security forces, and local elected officials ensured the safety and coordination of the operation.
In related news, the Provincial Directorate of Public Works in Tlemcen Province reported that all roads blocked by Tuesday’s snowfall have been reopened. According to Director of Public Works, Mohamed Gasmi, National Road 22, connecting the Beni Boublane neighborhood in Mansourah municipality to the Tel Tirni area in Tirni Beni Hediel municipality and extending to Sebdou municipality, is now accessible.
Furthermore, Provincial Road 70 (B) linking Ain Talout municipality to Tajmout village, Provincial Road 103 (C) connecting Moulay Slissil village to El Gor municipality, Provincial Road 22 (B) linking Beni Smiel and Sebdou municipalities, and Provincial Road 111 connecting El Ouad El Akhdar municipality to Beni Ghzli village have all been cleared.
Other roads reopened include Provincial Road 106 between Beni Snous and Sebdou municipalities, Provincial Road 2 connecting Bouhssoun and Hafir villages in Ain Graba municipality, Provincial Road 54 connecting the Tzarifat forest and Beni Snous municipality, National Road 99 between El Mshamish village and Sidi Djillali municipality, and the Djebel Asfour area in the same municipality. Finally, Provincial Road 107, linking Taj Retila village and Beni Boussaid municipality, is now open.
The Directorate of Public Works deployed six snowplows, ten trucks, and 50 tons of de-icing salt to facilitate the reopening of these crucial transportation routes. Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions and urge drivers to exercise caution.
