The National Authority for the Prevention and Control of Offenses Related to Information and Communication Technologies has issued a warning regarding disruptive online content inciting a merchants’ strike. The alert, released Wednesday, highlights the presence of inflammatory posts circulating on social media platforms.
According to a statement from the Authority, these posts originate from individuals located abroad, known for their hostility towards Algeria. These individuals are allegedly using social media to urge Algerian merchants to participate in a strike on Thursday, with the intention of destabilizing the country.
The Authority’s statement further elaborated that technical investigations conducted by its specialized services have revealed the dissemination of disruptive content through various pages and accounts on social media platforms. These accounts are reportedly linked to individuals based in countries including Morocco, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
The Authority emphasizes that these individuals are known for their antagonism towards Algeria and its institutions. Their objective, according to the statement, is to incite Algerian merchants to strike on Thursday, January 8, 2026, thereby undermining the stability of the nation.
