French Minister of Digital Affairs Jean Noël Barreau has extended a warm invitation to Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, following his recent dismissal as the company’s CEO. This gesture, reported by Agence France-Presse, comes in the wake of OpenAI’s significant contributions to generative AI through the launch of the ChatGPT platform.Sam Altman OpenAI France.

Barreau expressed on the X platform that “Sam Altman and his team’s talents are welcome in France, should they choose to come. We are keen on accelerating the deployment of artificial intelligence for public good.”

This invitation aligns with France’s growing commitment to AI development. Just a day earlier, executives from French telecommunications company Iliad and French shipping company CMA CGM announced the creation of the Kyutai AI lab in Paris.

Sam Altman, a prominent Silicon Valley figure, was ousted from his position at OpenAI after the board criticized him for not being “candid.” Reflecting on his tenure, Altman wrote on the X platform about his transformative personal journey and hopes for the world’s future with AI.

Altman’s departure surprised Silicon Valley, a hub facing significant challenges in the AI sector. In the interim, Mira Morati, OpenAI’s Technical Director and a five-year veteran at the company, has been appointed as the acting CEO while the search for a permanent leader continues.
