Gas Leak in Setif Sickens Six Residents

Setif, Algeria – Six individuals were hospitalized last night in Setif after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident, attributed to a faulty water heater, underscores the ongoing risks associated with improperly maintained appliances during the colder months.

Emergency services responded to a call at approximately 9:28 PM local time in the Ain Mous district, within the municipality and province of Setif. Upon arrival at the residence in the Tarqia Ben Jaddou area, responders discovered six individuals exhibiting symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning, including nausea and breathing difficulties.

The victims, whose ages range from two to 48 years old, were promptly treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital for further medical attention. Their current condition is being monitored.

Carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas, is a known hazard associated with malfunctioning heating systems and appliances. Authorities are urging residents to ensure that all gas-powered appliances are regularly inspected and properly ventilated to prevent future incidents.
