Algiers, DZWatch – Renowned Algerian commentator Hafid Derradji has shared his thoughts following Algeria’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations. Despite the quarter-final loss to Nigeria (2-0), Derradji believes the national team can hold their heads high.
Derradji acknowledged Nigeria’s strength, stating they deserved the victory and progression to the semi-finals. However, he also pointed to the refereeing performance as a significant factor, suggesting it unsettled the Algerian players early in the match with a series of yellow cards.
“Nigeria didn’t need the referee to win,” Derradji commented, implying that the officiating was unnecessarily provocative.
He further suggested that the Algerian team, including coach Vladimir Petkovic, were aware of the challenge Nigeria posed and that an exit at this stage was a distinct possibility given the circumstances surrounding the game.

“Losing is not being defeated,” Derradji concluded, expressing optimism for the future.
