Tehran has issued a stern warning to Washington, stating that any potential aggression against Iran would be met with a forceful response targeting both Israel and American military installations in the region. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf asserted that these sites would be considered legitimate targets in the event of a U.S. attack.
The warning comes amid escalating tensions within Iran, fueled by ongoing domestic protests. Ghalibaf accused external actors of instigating unrest, stating that “the enemy has entered a phase of terrorist warfare from within.” He urged Iranian officials to prioritize stabilizing exchange rates and increasing citizens’ purchasing power to mitigate economic pressures.
During a parliamentary session convened to address the protests, lawmakers chanted slogans against the United States. Simultaneously, reports indicate that Israel has heightened its alert status in anticipation of potential U.S. intervention to support the widespread demonstrations.
Internet monitoring organization NetBlocks has confirmed that internet access in Iran has been severely disrupted for over 60 hours, highlighting the extent of communication restrictions imposed within the country. This blackout makes verifying claims from the government and protesters difficult.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously cautioned Iranian authorities against using violence against protestors, hinting at possible intervention. He stated on his social media platform that Washington was “ready to act” in support of freedom demands in Iran. He also suggested that “Iran is in big trouble,” alluding to potential military options against its leadership if necessary.
Iranian authorities, led by Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, have accused the U.S. and Israel of meddling in the protests, alleging that the events are being orchestrated from abroad. Iranians have been protesting economic and political conditions following strikes by Tehran bazaar merchants, triggered by the currency’s devaluation and declining purchasing power. Anti-government slogans continue to be voiced across the country. The situation remains volatile, and the potential for further escalation is a significant concern.
DZWatch continues to monitor the situation closely.
