Petković to Remain as Algeria’s National Team Coach

Algiers – The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has announced its continued confidence in national team coach Vladimir Petković, confirming he will remain at the helm of Les Fennecs. This decision follows Algeria’s exit from the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

In an official statement, the FAF emphasized that this move is aimed at ensuring technical stability and continuing the project of rebuilding the national team. The federation stressed that the current phase requires composure, consistent effort, and providing the technical staff with adequate time to implement their vision and achieve the set objectives in both the short and medium term.

The FAF highlighted that Coach Petković has demonstrated significant commitment and diligence since taking charge of the team. This includes tactical discipline, rebalancing the squad, and integrating fresh talent by giving opportunities to several young players in preparation for upcoming competitions.

The statement acknowledged that the continental elimination, while disappointing, does not necessarily reflect the full extent of the work undertaken, especially considering the circumstances surrounding the tournament. The technical team will continue to evaluate the recent participation, learn necessary lessons, correct mistakes, and reinforce positive aspects of the team’s performance.

This renewed support for Petković comes at a time when crucial footballing events are approaching, most notably the World Cup qualifiers. The Algerian Football Federation considers technical stability a strategic choice to ensure the team’s readiness and achieve positive results that will restore Les Fennecs to their winning ways.

Concluding the statement, the FAF reiterated its full support for the national coach and his staff, urging Algerian fans to continue backing the national team and rallying around it, in the best interests of Algerian football and to enhance its presence both continentally and internationally.
