CAF Launches Investigation into Unacceptable Conduct at AFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the launch of a formal investigation into alleged unacceptable behavior by players and officials during the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final matches. The investigation focuses specifically on incidents following the Cameroon-Morocco and Algeria-Nigeria encounters.

In an official statement, CAF stated that it has collected official reports, supported by photographic evidence, indicating potentially inappropriate conduct. While the statement refrained from identifying specific individuals at this stage, it confirmed that the gathered information prompted the continental body to initiate a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts.

CAF has referred the matters to its Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and appropriate action, should any violations be substantiated. Any sanctions will be in accordance with the organization’s established regulations and laws. The statement emphasized CAF’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the competition.

Furthermore, CAF is reviewing video footage concerning alleged inappropriate behavior by media representatives within the mixed zone following the matches, particularly the Algeria-Nigeria game. The organization is taking these allegations very seriously.

CAF strongly condemns any unsportsmanlike or unprofessional conduct occurring during or after matches. This includes actions targeting match officials or tournament organizers. The governing body emphasized that it will not tolerate any violations that undermine the principles of professionalism and discipline that govern its competitions.

CAF concluded its statement by reiterating its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the image of African football and ensuring adherence to its regulations. The organization will take decisive action against anyone found to have engaged in conduct that contravenes sporting values and principles.
