Algerian FA Urges Support After AFCON Exit, Protests Refereeing

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has issued a statement addressing the nation following the national team’s quarter-final exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The FAF called on supporters to maintain sportsmanship and demonstrate unwavering solidarity with the players and technical staff as the team undergoes a period of rebuilding and development.

In its message, the Federation emphasized the importance of backing the team in upcoming competitions, particularly the World Cup qualifiers scheduled in less than five months. The FAF stressed the need for collective unity, calm, and continuous encouragement for the players and technical staff, who have demonstrated commitment and dedication throughout the tournament.

The FAF acknowledged the controversial refereeing decisions during the quarter-final match, which have raised significant questions and impacted the credibility of African officiating. The Federation believes these decisions have tarnished the image of African football on the international stage.

In response, the FAF has lodged a formal complaint with both the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), requesting a thorough investigation and appropriate action in accordance with established regulations.

The Federation stated that this period requires learning from the experience, reinforcing the work already done, and preparing for future competitions with the aim of delivering stronger and more competitive performances. The goal is to maintain the national team’s position among the top teams and ensure it remains a source of pride for Algerian youth.

The FAF concluded its message by thanking the fans and the media for their support throughout the tournament. It also expressed its appreciation to the public authorities for their support and for providing the necessary resources to the national team. The Federation reaffirmed its full confidence in the team, the technical staff, and all those dedicated to the development of Algerian football.
